Artist's Statement

“A story has no beginning or end: arbitrarily one chooses that moment of experience from which to look back or from which to look ahead.”
― Graham Greene

I paint stories.

Over the years, my work has steadily evolved from basic technical studies to narrative illustrations. Stylistically, I choose to mix traditional watercolor techniques with a more tightly illustrative quality and, I tend to mix realism with a sense of whimsy.

As such, many of my paintings are influenced by places I’ve visited or lived and the people or creatures I grew up around. I invite you to meet my characters. They'll often include an assortment of familiar creatures and people, from dogs and horses to friends and family. The settings will range from the sand-dunes of Southern Colorado and the stony beaches of Oregon to characters frollicing through the fields and river valleys of my hometown.

I welcome viewers into my paintings. Step through the looking glass and join the story; to see what happens next or to question what happened before.
